Kazakhstan is not only the world鈥檚 largest landlocked country, it鈥檚 also home to far-flung Johnnie Daniel Scarborough (SF01). Scarborough is an assistant professor of Russian history and religion at Nazarbayev University in the former Soviet state鈥檚 capital, Nur-Sultan (previously known as Astana), and he has just published a new book, Russia鈥檚 Social Gospel: The Orthodox Pastoral Movement in Famine, War, and Revolution.

Avi Kumar (A21) is one of the lucky ones. He always knew his life path, and that knowledge鈥攊lluminated by a St. John鈥檚 education鈥攇ave him the clarity, persistence, and skills to be accepted at Stanford Law School. Kumar says he owes his collegiate and professional success to the 鈥渋ntensive education鈥� he received at St. John鈥檚 College. 鈥淵ou really can do anything with this degree,鈥� he adds.

For a small liberal arts institution, St. John鈥檚 College has a significant number of employees who are Fulbright scholars. Now St. John鈥檚 is working to help more of our undergraduate and graduate students enjoy a Fulbright experience abroad.
