Alumni Policies
The services and resources that the Meem Library provides are designed to meet the needs of the students, faculty, and staff of St. John’s College. We also provide access to our facility and limited borrowing privileges to St. John’s College alumni who are New Mexico residents. We currently are not open to the general public.
How to Register as an Alumnus
Alumni registration provides individual access and borrowing privileges to alumni who are New Mexico residents. As part of our alumni registration form we require a current street address or rural route and box number, including zip code, a telephone number, an email address, and a driver’s license or other official form of photo identification. Alumni must also email a clear headshot in jpeg format to . Registrations will be processed once a photo is submitted and alumni status is verified. Alumni will be notified when their library card is available for pickup at the circulation desk. They will need to swipe this library card through the card reader at the circulation desk each time they enter the library. Registration provides access and borrowing privileges only to the library cardholder. All alumni registrations expire on June 30 each year, after which the process must be repeated for renewal.
Borrowing Privileges
The book loan period for alumni is one month. The audio-visual (CDs and DVDs) loan period is 7 days. There is a ten concurrent item limit for items borrowed. When the library is closed, items may be returned through the book drop located outside the library. Renewal requests may be made via the borrower’s online account login to our online catalog, over the phone, or in person. There is a limit of three renewals per item. Late renewals are not allowed. Overdue notices are emailed as needed. While we do not charge overdue fines, borrowing privileges will be suspended if items are overdue and will be reinstated only upon return of the borrowed items. We do require that you pay full replacement fees plus a $10 processing fee for any lost and damaged items.
Library Hours
Meem Library is open during posted hours when college classes are in session. The library is closed between each academic semester. Borrower due dates will automatically be adjusted based on our closure periods.
Collections
Alumni may use any of the books, journals, or audio-visual materials in our circulating collection and may check out any circulating item from the general stacks. Reserve materials, reference works, periodicals, some music items and special collections are for in-library use only. Back issues of periodicals are kept in closed storage and must be requested at the circulation desk.
Reference Service
Reference service is available for help and guidance in finding information and library materials. Request assistance of a librarian at the circulation desk. Professional librarians are on duty Sunday through Friday during normal business hours.

Please feel free to ask a library assistant or librarian to assist you while you are visiting the library.
